Crown Motors WiFi Refreshment Project @2016Q3

As previous Wi-Fi infrastructure built by Meru been operated for 8 years, ITSHK suggested a equipment refreshment with below reasons:
- 8 years is a good switch over point for wifi equipments, usually 6 years
- Meru has sold to Fortinet and further support is unknown
- operation requires detail coverage plan, less latency wifi network(faster response handheld application)

We rebuilt the network using Mikrotik while CCR (above photo) acts as wi-fi controller. We use Mikrotik not just because cost-effective but also able to provide fast roaming for moving clients.

Large Medicine Manufactory HK office WLAN @2015Q1

Composed of two Aruba controllers and dozen AC dual band AP, a reliable and effective WLAN network was designed and built within the full floor office. The design must fulfill:
- HA controller
- resilience coverage
- different group of user with different security policy, including guest access

HsinKuang Restaurant Wi-Fi @2014 Q4

We just built a Wi-Fi system in HsinKuang Restaurant in YaMaTei after its rework. This is a special case we want to share because firstly it is the our first Mikrotik CAPsMAN (wireless controller) implementation (may be first in HK) and secondly, hotspot is turn on for marketing purpose. One Mikrotik router acts as wireless controller, firewall and also hotspot. And it is very cost effective.

 

Project Salcedo @2014

To a small town and villages in Philippine, data communication is never high speed and never stable due to:
- lack of government and telecoms investment because of low population over size of coverage
- lack of technical support with experience and knowhow
- lack of product selection
- higher delivery and maintenance cost

ITSHK was invited to help a local WISP (wireless ISP) to improve connection speed and stability. We need to do it quick and off-site. After days of conservations and information collection based on our expertise on each WISP sectors (service provider, backhaul, gateway, hotspot, authentication, clients), we found the problems:
1) the service provider tower is mostly 10km away but hardly to change
2) incorrect use of antenna
So we suggest, firstly, to replace the antenna. The result is so stunning that now users able to connect to Internet smoothly without disconnection, with a total speed about 8-10Mbps which they never achieved.

There are still a lot of problems but we will solve them in coming phases to avoid total failure when the project is completely remote.

Lander Hotel @2014

Share a 4M Internet connection among 70 concurrent users

Limited by service provider infrastructure cabling, Lander Hotel located in Mongkok has only 4Mbps broadband connection which was everyday nightmare before we step in. The refreshment included both Wi-Fi, the local network and Internet gateway, everything was rebuilt to provide strong and well Wi-Fi coverage to all guest rooms and public area, and, smooth and no complain Internet experience to all guests.

But how? To share a so low bandwidth (still low even for one user) to seventy guests sounds impossible! We divided the network to different parts:
1) the local network - the local network should be secured and very fast to avoid any latency
2) Internet connection - assure that service provider provides stable and said throughput all the time
3) the sharing - apply queuing, QoS to provide balanced sharing to each individual user. IE, one user can use all the bandwidth if the network is non-busy
4) traffic filtering - some unnecessary traffic should be blocked such as P2P and broadcasting

After all, we keep monitoring and logging the network to avoid any problem from affecting user experience.
